Detailed Error Code Solutions

Error Code 01 - Card Not Valid

  • Try clearing the error by inserting the card with the gold chip facing down
  • If Error 06 appears instead, this indicates a card fault requiring a new Kinecx Energy card
  • If Error 01 persists with gold chip facing down, please contact customer support

Error Code 02 - Incorrect Supplier Code

  • This occurs when using another supplier’s card (e.g., SSE Airtricity Gas)
  • Purchase a Kinecx Energy gas card (£4.00) from any shop with a PayPoint symbol
  • Find PayPoint locations at: www.paypoint.com/locator
  • Register your new card to the meter before purchasing a top-up

Error Code 03 - Credit Expired

  • Credit is only valid for 6 months on the card
  • For credit topped up less than six months ago, contact customer support
  • For older credit, send your card to our offices with:
    • A covering letter
    • Your name, address, and contact number
    • Brief explanation of the issue
    • Request for a refund

Error Code 04 - Meter Credit Full

  • The meter will not accept more than 1800M³ of gas
  • Use some gas to bring your usage below the maximum amount
  • Once below 1800M³, you will be able to top up again

Error Code 05 - Communication Failed with Meter

  • Contact customer support immediately

Error Code 06 - Communication Failed with Card

  • This typically indicates dirty contacts or an unregistered card
  • Try cleaning the chip with a soft cloth or eraser
  • Insert the card with gold chip facing upwards
  • Try blowing into the meter slot to remove dust and grime
  • If problems persist, purchase a new card and register it to the meter
  • If a new card doesn’t resolve the issue, contact customer support

Error Code 07 - Low Battery

  • Contact customer support immediately

Error Code 08 - Operation Not Possible

  • If you recently switched to Kinecx Energy and topped up more than £20.00 while receiving a ‘change of supply’ message, contact customer support
  • Otherwise, this error indicates that no buttons need to be pressed when inserting the card – credit transfers automatically
