Kinecx Energy has been recognised with Platinum Level status in the 2025 Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey, demonstrating the company’s leading commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable operations.
The prestigious accolade, awarded by Business in the Community NI (BITC), places Kinecx Energy amongst Northern Ireland’s top-performing organisations for environmental management and transparency. This marks the company’s fifth consecutive year achieving Platinum Level—the survey’s highest recognition—since first participating eight years ago.
About the NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey
The NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey is an annual, voluntary environmental management self-disclosure exercise that enables organisations to publicly demonstrate their commitment to being environmentally responsible and transparent. The survey allows businesses to examine and reflect on their environmental performance, compare themselves to industry peers, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
The 2025 survey results were unveiled at a major event in Titanic Belfast, attended by over 200 sustainability leaders from across Northern Ireland. The accompanying report showcases how businesses across the region are accelerating efforts to cut emissions and embed sustainability across their operations.
Achieving Platinum Level—the highest tier of recognition—reflects Kinecx Energy’s comprehensive approach to sustainability and environmental management across its operations, from the construction and maintenance of natural gas infrastructure to the delivery of cleaner energy solutions to homes and businesses throughout the Ten Towns network.
Driving Environmental Excellence Through Action
Kinecx Energy’s fifth consecutive Platinum achievement reflects tangible environmental initiatives implemented across the business, including:
- Circular Economy Leadership: Repurposing waste materials to support a circular economy approach, reducing landfill dependency and maximising resource efficiency
- Renewable Energy Investment: Installation of solar panels at the company’s headquarters in Antrim, demonstrating commitment to clean energy generation
- Sustainable Supply Chain: Working closely with the supply chain to promote sustainability practices as the company continues to build and operate its distribution network across the Ten Towns area
These initiatives complement the company’s core mission of providing cleaner energy solutions to Northern Ireland homes and businesses through its natural gas network.
A Commitment to Northern Ireland’s Sustainable Future
As the operator of the natural gas network spanning from Derry/Londonderry to Antrim through to Newry, Kinecx Energy plays a vital role in Northern Ireland’s energy transition. The company’s network provides thousands of homes and businesses with access to natural gas—a cleaner alternative to other home heating fuels reducing carbon emissions by up to 50%.
Beyond maintaining and expanding the current network, Kinecx Energy is actively preparing for the future of sustainable gas, exploring renewable gas solutions including biomethane and hydrogen blending capabilities that will further reduce carbon emissions whilst utilising existing infrastructure.
Statement from Chantal Hemphill, Health, Safety & Environmental Manager
Commenting on the achievement, Chantal Hemphill, Health, Safety & Environmental Manager at Kinecx Energy, said:
“Achieving Platinum Level in the NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team at Kinecx Energy. Environmental responsibility isn’t just a corporate priority for us—it’s embedded in everything we do, from how we design and maintain our network infrastructure to how we engage with the communities we serve.
“This recognition validates our ongoing efforts to minimise our environmental impacts whilst delivering essential energy services across Northern Ireland. However, we view this as a milestone in our journey rather than a destination. We remain focused on continuous improvement, exploring innovative solutions like renewable gas and hydrogen, and supporting Northern Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon future.
“We’re proud to be working alongside other leading organisations in Northern Ireland who are committed to environmental excellence, and we’re grateful to Business in the Community for providing this important benchmarking framework that drives us all to raise our standards year on year.”
Looking Ahead
Kinecx Energy continues to invest in sustainable solutions and energy efficiency initiatives, working collaboratively with government agencies, industry bodies, and customers to build a more sustainable energy future for Northern Ireland.
